The all-electric 5-door performance fastback, Polestar 2, is getting a significant facelift. The 2024 model receives, among other things, a new high-tech front reflecting the design language of the upcoming Polestar 3, significant performance improvements thanks to all-new electric motors, even more powerful batteries, and enhancements to the vehicle's environmental friendliness, and other enhancements. At the same time, it receives rear-wheel drive, a feature that has never been available on a Polestar before.

"A "facelift" is a term used in the automobile industry to refer to a series of cosmetic modifications that are often somewhat superficial and frequently undermine the original design goals of the vehicle. In the latest edition of the Polestar 2, we have gone one step further and improved both the technological and mechanical aspects of the main components that make up the electric drivetrain. It is the best Polestar 2 model to date, and thanks to the redesigned front design that incorporates the new SmartZone, it also has the best appearance," according to Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.

Polestar 2 was released into a premium electric car market that is highly competitive, focusing on Scandinavian design, exceptional user-friendliness, exciting driving qualities, and a strong emphasis on sustainability. It was the first vehicle in the world to have an infotainment system that the Android Automotive OS drove with Google built in. This was the beginning of an experience that continues to lead the industry in its development and innovation. Because of its one-of-a-kind combination, the Polestar 2 became an instant hit with consumers. These days, the Polestar 2 is sold in 27 regions across the globe, and by the end of 2022, the company had produced the milestone number of 100,000 Polestar 2 automobiles.

The SmartZone, located on the front of the car and making its debut on the new Polestar 2, represents the high-tech nature of the cars produced by Polestar. As it does on the Polestar 3, SmartZone is responsible for providing the vehicle with some of the essential active safety features. These features include the front camera as well as a mid-range radar sensor.

To give the new Polestar 2 a sportier appearance similar to that of the Polestar 3, the 20-inch alloy wheels included in the Performance package have been upgraded.

Each iteration of the Polestar 2 comes standard with electric motors and inverters of the latest generation, resulting in increased power and efficiency. Single motor variations now have rear wheel drive and are driven by a newly built permanent magnet motor and a silicon carbide inverter. To further improve the car's dynamic performance, the new engine has an output of up to 220 kW, which is an increase from the previous 170 kW, and it is optimized for maximum efficiency and high torque (490 Nm, which is an increase from 330 Nm). It can accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 6.2 seconds, which is 1.2 seconds quicker than the previous model.

The dual motor models are now also available with rear-wheel drive, which improves performance and the enjoyment of driving thanks to an all-new powertrain configuration and increased torque. The new asynchronous motor on the front axle works in conjunction with the new rear motor as the major source of propulsion for the vehicle. This results in an enhanced overall output of 310 kW and 740 Nm (up from the previous level of 300 kW and 660 Nm), vastly improved traction, increased efficiency, and improved performance, with a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h taking only 4.5 seconds. It is now possible to disconnect the front engine whenever it is not required, which will help increase efficiency. The front engine immediately and smoothly kicks in whenever the driver requests greater power from the vehicle.

You can receive an output of up to 350 kW and an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds if you purchase the Performance package. All Long range Dual engine models are eligible for a software upgrade that can be downloaded over the air and provides the option to purchase more efficiency, greater performance, and improved driveability.

In most markets, all-new Polestar 2 models come with updated lithium-ion batteries, which positively impact the vehicle's efficiency and capacity, in addition to the amount of time it takes to charge. Batteries from CATL rated at 82 kWh and comprised of 27 individual modules are now standard on Long Range models. LG Chem is now the company that supplies the battery that powers the Polestar 2 Standard Range variations. It still has a capacity of 69 kWh and comprises 24 modules.

The Polestar 2 can now be rapid-charged with substantially more power—up to 205 kW for the Long Range variants—thanks to updated charging circuits and enhanced cell chemistry. This improvement allows for significantly longer ranges between charges. The maximum charging power has been increased to 135 kW for models that belong to the Standard Range.

Because of the larger and better batteries and optimization of the power supply from the more powerful engines, all of the new Polestar 2 models have a greater driving range than their predecessors. Because it is possible to separate the front engine, the Long Range Dual Motor achieves a significantly enhanced range of 592 km WLTP, an increase of 105 km over its previous range.

The intervals that make up the Standard intervals The Single motor range is extended by 40 kilometers, bringing the overall WLTP distance to 518 kilometers. On the other hand, the range of the Long range Single motor is raised by 84 kilometers, bringing the total distance to 635 kilometers.

The base model's standard equipment has been upgraded to improve the overall value and level of comfort offered by the Polestar 2. The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), the Cross Traffic Alert that helps brake, and the Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation are all standard equipment. In addition, a 360-degree surround camera and auto-dimming door mirrors are also included. In addition, the wireless mobile charger is now included as standard equipment in every new Polestar 2.
