Even though there was fighting in Europe, a global supply crisis, and the effects of the pandemic, IKEA Denmark had a good business year with a turnover of $700 million and took new steps to grow its market share simultaneously.

IKEA could keep its sales at the same level as the year before, even though it was a challenging year for Europe and Denmark in terms of politics and the economy. The first top-line results just came out, showing that the company made $700 million in sales.

"We thought that after a few years with the pandemic, we would be able to go back to normal in the same way. But, as you know, that's not how things turned out. Instead, we had to deal with even more uncertainty because of the war in Ukraine, problems with transportation, a lack of goods, and inflation. Our employees took on the challenges with courage, initiative, and a positive attitude, and the year's results now show what they did. I'm proud that we can keep the turnover level the same. When we look back at the past year, it was by no means a sure thing that," says Filip Fischier, CFO at IKEA Denmark.

Even though business was tricky, IKEA Denmark kept its focus on social responsibility, working with the UN Refugee Agency and the Red Cross, among other groups. IKEA got donations of furniture and other household items for Center Sandholm. It held a job-matching event for refugees in IKEA Aalborg with help from the city and other local businesses. IKEA Denmark also gave all employees a "We Day," a paid day off to do something good for other people, like help the Red Cross.

During the last business year, there was also growth. IKEA opened a new Planning studio in Esbjerg in July, and the company is now looking forward to two more openings that will help it grow even more.

Filip Fischier says: "We're about to start an exciting year in which we'll be able to help even more people across the country. We will soon be opening a new Planning Studio in Vejle, and we are also in the process of building IKEA Copenhagen, which will be our first city department store. It is expected to open in the summer of 2023."
